About Lili - Therapist, Facilitator, Speaker

I’m a psychotherapist with lived experience of invisible chronic illness. I offer thoughtful, down-to-earth therapy for people navigating the emotional impact of chronic conditions.

Former elite curling athlete and animal lover, here for sensitive, misunderstood beings—human and otherwise.

I’m Canadian-born, NYC-based, and love both equally. Before becoming a therapist, I was an elite athlete, competing in curling at the highest levels.

I grew up fascinated by how the mind works and still can’t resist true crime or a Twilight Zone episode. My home is basically a zoo—currently run by my two pet rats, Maisey and Penelope.

Most of all, I love my work as a therapist and the privilege of walking alongside people as they navigate complex inner and outer worlds.

my origin story

A Therapist who understands chronic illness

I get it because I’ve got it.
— Lili Knighton

finding my new normal

My path to this work became deeply personal when I was diagnosed with an invisible chronic illness while already practicing as a psychotherapist. Before answers came, I lived through years of unexplained symptoms and dismissive explanations. Receiving an autoimmune diagnosis meant learning how to navigate chronic illness—not just medically, but emotionally and practically.

As I sought therapy to cope with my new normal, I was struck by how few clinicians truly understood the impact of invisible illness. Being told I “looked okay” left me feeling as though I had to prove I was sick just to speak about it—an experience I soon learned was widely shared.

That gap changed my work. I became the therapist I needed back then. With me, you never have to prove you’re sick. Illness can be overwhelming at times and quieter at others—but it’s always there. From that shared understanding, we can build a life that fits who you are now.

Professional expertise and approach

I’m a licensed psychotherapist with over twenty years of experience, trained in multiple therapeutic approaches, including Feminist Therapy. I specialize in supporting women navigating the medical system, aging, and managing menopause alongside chronic health concerns. My work continues to evolve in response to the needs of the invisible chronic illness community.

Therapy with me is collaborative and tailored to your goals. Together, we focus on staying present, managing discomfort, and building a life that reflects who you are now—not just your illness.

In addition to individual therapy, I also train clinicians, consult with organizations and HR teams, and lead workshops for people living with invisible chronic illness.
